This was the first pattern I ever posted to Ravelry, nearly 5 years ago, and a lot has changed in that time. The original pattern was made with Size 10 Crochet Thread, and worked up to about 6in tall and 4in wide, but now I’ve included a quick version made with worsted weight that works as a pencil up suitable for holding crochet hooks, scissors, pens, highlighters, and all the other odds and ends hanging out on your craft table.

Honestly, this pattern is suitable for nearly any gauge, as it will just make a larger or smaller version of the cups. Work this at a tight gauge to ensure it holds up well. Depending on your chosen yarn, you may want to either skip blocking (to make sure the fibers don’t loosen up and make your cup all floppy!) or use your favorite stiffening methods to help maintain the shape in humid environments or if it may need frequent washing.

I include directions on how to complete the crocodile stitch, so previous knowledge about this technique is helpful, but not required.
