The Piccolomini Hood, was published in Peterson’s 1859. The pattern is a bit of a stumper, and when I saw the school girl panting, I recognized the hood right away. I based the pattern off the painting instead. While lacey and lighter looking, this hood is still rather warm. The inner portion of the hood is a very simplistic knit; however, the lace border is worked in the round, and can be frustrating if stitches are lost. You may find comfort in a lifeline while working on the border.
