School Year Sky Blanket
Playing on the same idea of all the other sky and temperature projects, this blanket will document the weather (sky conditions) over the course of a school year. This blanket will be worked over 187 school days only. PA Days, weekends, and school holidays are exempt from making squares. (School years are usually 190+ days long, so this fits in that time frame comfortably.)
Designed to fit on a twin bed, it’s displayed on a queen size so you can see the full blanket.
This is an ideal project for learning art and science (meteorology, environmental sciences) all at once. At the end of the school year, you’ll have a blanket that fits a twin bed, representing the year. The short term accomplishments of making one granny square and the long term accomplishment of completing an entire blanket are both equally satisfying!
This blanket uses just over 11 skeins of yarn - four of them are the joining colour (grey ragg) while the remainder are the five sky colours.
How much of each colour will depend entirely on the weather conditions where you live. (Sunnier areas will use more blue, areas with more precipitation will use more grey.) I recommend starting with one skein of each colour and then buy as you go - matching dye lots are not required for this project.
