Sci-Fi Scarf
I grew up in an era when the two great Sci-Fi franchises were at war. Fans chose sides and sneered at the “losers” on the opposite team. It was silly. Nowadays fandom is expansive enough that it’s okay to love both.
I’ve always loved the retrofuturistic notion of designing screens and controls for spaceships. Fifty years ago the entertainment industry struggled to conceive of what might replace buttons and dials. The WIMP (windows, icons, menus, pointer) style of graphical user interface was just being designed at Xerox PARC in 1973. It was the standard for a long run, but now that so many of our screens are touchscreens (like those on a certain bridge in a certain generation), our own standard controls are shifting too.
This project requires fingering weight yarn, 250 yards each ball, two balls in black, half a ball each in red, orange, yellow, aqua, gray, and white.
The pattern is available in my e-book.
