The Scintillate shawl is elegant and simple, perfect for wearing as a cozy wrap or a small neckerchief. You choose your size and your border pattern.

There are three choices for the border: none, a small, simple garter & lace pattern, and the large diamonds shown here. They’re all fun and beautiful. Watch for pictures of the garter border on a color-changing version, coming soon.

This shawl was originally designed for my Knit a Lace Shawl class. It’s designed to be a good first lace shawl project, with a little guidance. The yarnovers flow in clean, straight lines so mistakes are easy to spot. Every wrong-side row is a “rest” row of purling.

It features a common construction (top-center-down triangle) and covers many often-found shawl-knitting techniques, including Garter Tab Cast On, side and center increases, lace charts, and working lace repeats. I wanted my students to learn to read their knitting and correct mistakes, so they would know they can knit anything!

The shawl shown here was knit using 1.5 skeins of Manos del Uruguay Fino, and it’s the perfect size to wear as a wrap. (It’s my new favorite accessory, and I’ve been getting compliments everywhere I go!) Using the full 2 skeins would make a gigantic shawl that would go off the ends of a twin bed.

Instructions for the lace are given in both charted and written format, so you can choose your favorite.

Your needle size isn’t critical when knitting this shawl. Size 5, 7, or even 8 US would also work great.
