The pattern is worked throughout in stocking stitch.

For a blanket I work in vertical squares of 5 (forming a strip) Alternating a dog square with a plain square, and then crochet strips together to form a blanket.

If you would prefer the item as wash cloth and to acheive a border. then Knit (K) first 4 and last 4 rows. All Purl rows will begin and end with Knit (K) 3
