Scrap-a-Doodle Socks
Scrap-a-Doodle Socks are top down socks that begin with a 2x2 ribbed cuff and then stranded colorwork patterns make up the leg and foot of the sock. Waste yarn is placed for an afterthought (peasant) heel. You can knit these socks in 2-24+ colors. They are a perfect scrapbuster! The sample pair was knit in pastel colors of Lang Jawoll but this design works well with any color palette. The pattern is given for two sizes (8” and 9” circumference) and length can be adjusted easily.
The inspiration behind this design is the tiny motifs that I remember drawing on Easter eggs as a child. It was so magical to see the waxy designs appear once the eggs were placed in the dye! Even as I grew older and lost some interest in dyeing eggs, it was always a treat to do it with my family because of how enthusiastic my grandfather was. I remember him reading the directions carefully, painstakingly cutting out the cardboard decorations, and spending a few hours dyeing and decorating the eggs. We don’t dye eggs in my house since my son has an egg allergy, so I thought this design would be a great way to honor Easter traditions. These happy, scrappy socks are just what I needed this spring! I hope you will enjoy knitting and wearing them as well.
