A fun project designed to use up leftover bits of fingering weight yarn.
These fine gauge mittens are constructed like Norwegian Selbu mittens, with a thumb gusset and a pointed tip. The cuff and main body have rows of deer, birds, monkeys, goats, and lions, and the thumbs are guarded by a pair of barking dogs.

Size:
If you knit according to gauge, the size will be women’s medium.
Measurements: circumference: 22 cm/8.6”; length: 27 cm/10.6”.
The size of these mittens can be adjusted by choosing thicker or thinner needles and yarn.

Yarn:
Scraps of fingering weight yarn, for example Rauma Finull (100% wool, 175 m/191 yards/50 g): about 300 meters/325 yards in total.

Needles and notions:
• Set of 5 double pointed needles, 2.0 mm (US 0),
or size needed to get gauge
• A bit of scrap yarn or a stitch holder
• Tapestry needle

Gauge:
38 stitches and 42 rounds = 10 cm/4” (stranded stockinette, steam blocked) for medium size.
