Scrapbook Sock Set
The Scrapbook sock set was designed as a means to create a knitted scrapbook, a way to use up precious leftovers or treasured single skeins. This is a mix and match design and the pattern features three, simple, knit and purl textured pattern choices for the leg.
Option A features a mirrored arrow design, and can be used to work either a striped or solid sock.
Option B features a square, basketweave design and is best worked in stripes.
Option C features a textured honeycomb design and is best worked in a single colour. Once you have chosen the desired leg design, begin with the ribbing that corresponds to your chosen option, the heel and toe options are interchangeable and can be worked as desired.
The three samples provide an overview of how the pattern can be worked up, the first sample is worked entirely using leftover yarn, the second sample used two colours for body of the sock, and two colours for the heels, toes and cuffs. Whereas the final sample was worked in a single skein with contrasting heels and toes.
Materials:
• One 2.25mm / US size 1 circular needle 100cm / 40” in length for magic loop or set of DPNs, or size needed to meet the required gauge.
• Stitch markers (2), one of which is used to mark the beginning of round.
• Tapestry needle for sewing in threads.
• Blocking materials.
• For striped socks approximately 90m (100m,125m, 150m) / 98yds (109yds,137yds, 164yds) of fingering weight yarn (sock yarn) is required to knit the heels, toes, and cuffs. Approximately 15 – 20m / 16 – 22yds of sock yarn for each stripe should be suitable for most adult sizes. For a solid sock with contrasting heels and toes, a 100g skein of sock yarn of the main colour along with one 20g mini skein of sock yarn in the contrast colour for the heels and toes should be suitable for most adult sizes. Note that yardage will vary dependent on size, yarn choice and on the placement of stripes in the sock. The gusset rounds will use more yardage than leg rounds for example. The yardage requirements are therefore just an estimation. The samples were worked in various leftover yarns.
Gauge:
34 stitches and 48 rounds = 10cm / 4” in textured pattern, worked in the round and blocked.
Size:
1 (2, 3, 4): The socks are 16.5cm (19cm, 21cm, 23.5cm) / 6.5” (7.5”, 8.5”, 9.5”) in circumference. Socks are intended to fit with approximately 2.5cm – 4.5cm / 1” – 1.75” negative ease. Samples all shown in size 2.
