Scrappy Cappy is the next project in my stashbusting series. If you saw the End Times Cardigan but weren’t quite ready to commit to a whole sweater, this might be the project for you!

Do you have lots of fingering weight scraps left over and can’t bear to throw them out? Small bits that just aren’t enough for a full project? This is the perfect project to use up all those odds and ends. And the best part? This hat is modular, requiring no seaming and very few ends to weave in! Most ends are knit in as you go. A photo tutorial is provided for the modular bits and the knitting in of ends - this is a separate PDF file included with your purchase. Just to reiterate – you do not need to weave in most of the ends!

Color Notes
I tried a few different color arrangements in the three samples I made. Two were tonal - blues/greens and pinks/purples. In each of these examples, I separated my colors into light and dark piles, alternating these as I went for subtle contrast. Colors are referred to as DC (dark color) and LC (light color). But feel free to mix this up as you please!

In the third sample, I elected to use black as my dark color, and rainbowy bright colors for the light colors.

If you’re looking to enhance your scrap bin, think about using minis! I used Unicorn Tails from Madelinetosh to enhance my blues/greens and purples/pinks.

Construction Notes
This hat is worked modularly and there is no seaming. Strips are made and added to previously knit strips as you go. Be sure to check out the tutorial that’s included as a separate file with the purchase of this pattern. It will walk you through all of the steps!
Colors are changed using the intarsia method, and only two colors are used at a time, so it’s easy to manage your yarn.

Materials
Fingering Weight Yarn – all the scraps! Each individual color portion of a parallelogram requires approximately 3 yds.
• Total Yarn for Hat - strips + brim: approx 275 yds
• Yarn Needed for Brim: approx 75 yds
Needles: US Size 2 (2.75 mm): two dpns, 24-32” circular
US Size 1 (2.25 mm) 16” circular (for brim); spare circular if doing a tubular bind-off
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker

Gauge
24 sts x 48 rows = 4” in garter st with larger needle
28 sts x 38 rows = 4” in 1x1 rib with smaller needle
Each Strip = 3.33” wide
