Scrappy Hat #2
This is the 2nd hat in my trilogy of scrappy hats.
You will need approximately 80 grams of worsted weight yarn and more if your adding a pom pom. If you knit on the loose side you’ll want to use US6/4.0mm needles and if you knit more tight you’ll want to use US7/4.5mm needles, in both a 16” circular and DPN’s. I personally use US6/4.0mm.
This hat is similar to another hat my Grandma
would include in her packages filled with hand knit hats,
mittens, scarfs or slippers…….plus a chocolate bar
for our family to share! Can you tell she was from Holland? To me hand knits, chocolate, marzipan,
wooden shoes & windmills all say “Grandma”.
It was a perfect hat to include in her packages because this hat fits almost all sizes. It fits my granddaughter who is 4 and also my husband who is 60. So this is a great hat for gift giving! It only takes around 60 grams and is perfect for using up your scraps. At the first of the year I decided to have my own personal knit a long and called it “The Year of Hats”. Basically, I had 3 medium sized bags of scrap yarn and I ended up with about 45 hats. From all this hat knitting is where my 3 Scrappy Hat patterns came to be. They are based on three hats my grandma would make for us. She was born in Holland, back in 1899…..so these patterns are oldies but goodies. I remember she had about three baskets in her basement filled with scrap yarn and from these baskets she kept her grandchildren outfitted with hats, mittens and slippers. So go get your scraps (and I know you have them) and get busy making some Scrappy Hats!
