Scrappy (or Not-So-Scrappy) Shawl
Gather up your sock yarn scraps – brights, neutrals, solids, variegated, self-striping - all of them! Scrappy uses them up and looks great in the process. By weaving in your ends along the way, you’ll end up with very little finishing to do at the end. Your blocking will decide if the shawl’s shape: triangle, 5 sided, or semi-circular. In total you’ll need about 675 yards of yarn.
Because this is meant to be worked with scraps, these are suggestions rather than hard instructions. The goal is to begin with contrasting brights, slowly transition to more muted, neutral colors, and then end with an abrupt switch back to high contrast brights. If you have self-striping or variegated yarn, I suggest using in in the first few sections. Color changes are described in each section as necessary, and are charted on page 4.
Prefer the Not-So-Scrappy version? We’ve got that too… you’ll need a minimum of three bright colors and two neutrals:
Bright A = 140 yards
Bright B = 140 yards
Bright C = 150 yards
(if you’re using more than three brights, just make sure your brights total apprx 430 yards)
neutral A = 130 yards
neutral B = 110 yards
Endless gratitude to my tech editor Megan Hasley!
