This beanie is inspired by the work of Basquiat, a modern artist of the 1980s using gridding techniques by Felicity Ford (Felix) in her Knit Stars Season 6 workshop of “Live Colorfully”. The construction of this beanie is knitted in the round as follows:
The outer brim (with stars) is knitted first with a provisional cast on using size 7 needles. The stitches from the provisional cast on are picked up to knit the inside brim using size 6 needles. Stars are then added using duplicate stitching on the outside brim before both ends are then folded together and joined, while the rest of the beanie is knit with size 7 needles in red and white stripes. The knitter can choose to add the stars using two-strand knitting. The knitter may also decide to make the beanie fit to size or, as designed, form a slouchy beanie. In the end, you will sport stars and stripes. ★
