Get out your scrappiest scraps and mix and match as you like because these cute little elephants feed on yarn scraps – the more colours you feed them, the happier the elephant! And the thicker the yarn, the bigger it grows, too! Use up any yarn scraps that have been lying about and knit them into a baby mobile, key rings, cat toy, cuddly pillows or maybe a cover for cooling pads!

The toy is knit in the round and closed with two small seams in the end (alternatives are given). The ears are picked up directly from the body to make for a safe baby toy.

Pattern includes instructions for a small and a big elephant and photo tutorials.

Techniques used are:

• knit in the round
• simple increases and decreases
• picking up stitches (optional. You can also knit parts separately and attach them later)
• cast on extra stitches
• kitchener stitch/grafting or three needle bind off (photo tutorial included)

The elephants can be made from any yarn quality, but it is practical to use needles at least one size smaller than indicated on the yarn to prevent the fibrefill from showing.

What you need:
* SCRAPS of sock weight or thicker yarn (Sock-weight yarn approx. 5-10grams
depending on size), if you use thicker yarns you’ll need more accordingly.

• 3-5 double pointed needles (one size smaller than indicated on the yarn)
• Small scraps of black and white for the eyes
• (optional) scraps for decorating the toy with a crochet flower, hair, hat or similar.
• Tapestry needle to close seams
• fibrefill
• (optional) crinkle paper for the ears, rattle, squeaker, cooling pad or similar…

I used no more than 4grams of sock weight yarn for the small elephants and 9-10grams for the big ones on needles 2.5. They measure 4x7cm (small) and 8x12cm (big) tall.

Dieser kleine Elefant frisst gerne Ihre Garnreste, je kleiner und bunter, desto besser. Und je dicker das Garn, desto dicker wird auch der Elefant! Jedes Garn kann benutzt werden.

Der Elefant wird in der Runde gestrickt und am Ende mit zwei kleinen Nähten geschlossen (Variationen werden gegeben). Die Ohren werden direkt an den Körper gestrickt und so eignet sich dieser niedliche Elefant besonders gut als Spielzeug für Babys, aber auch als Mobileanhänger, Wärme- oder Kühlkissenhülle, Schlüssel- oder Geschenkanhänger, Kuschelkissen usw.

Dieses Strickmuster ist für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene gleichermaßen geeignet und ist schnell an einem Tag gestrickt.

Ich gebe zwei verschiedene Größen an.

Angewandte Techniken sind:

• In der Runde stricken
• einfache Ab- und Zunahmen
• Maschen aufnehmen und Maschen neu anschlagen
• Maschenstich oder Abketten mit drei Nadeln zum Schließen der Ohren
• Evtl. Achternanschlag oder Luftmaschenanschlag mit Häkelnadel der gleichen Stärke.

Die Elefanten können mit allen Garnen gestrickt werden, aber es ist wichtig eine Nadelgröße kleiner zu wählen als auf dem Garn angegeben, damit die Füllwatte nicht durchscheint.

Was Sie brauchen:

• RESTE von Sockengarn, Baumwollgarn oder was Sie haben (Sockenwolle ca 5-10g je nach gewünschter Größe), bei dickeren Garnen entsprechend mehr.
• Ein Nadelspiel (eine Größe kleiner, als auf dem Garn angegeben)
• Wenig schwarzes Garn für die Augen
• evtl. einen Garnrest für eine Blume oder Stickerei auf dem Elefanten
• Stopfnadel zum Fäden vernähen
• Füllwatte
• bei Bedarf Knisterfolie für die Ohren und Quietsche, Rassel, Kühlkissen oder Traubenkernsäckchen als Füllung…

Bei meinen kleinen Elefanten habe ich 4 Gramm Sockenwollreste und Nadeln Stärke 2,5mm benutzt. Die fertigen Elefanten sind ca. 4cm hoch und 7cm lang.
Die großen Elefanten haben 9 Gramm Sockenwollreste gefressen und sind 8cm hoch und 10cm lang.
