The Scratch Art Cowl is a throwback to that great childhood art project of heavily coloring a piece of paper with wild colors of crayon, painting over it with black poster paint, and then scratching off the black to reveal the changing colors underneath.

Knit in the round, the stripes spiral up to the black sections and then re-appear on the other side. The ends are grafted together.

The finished cowl is approximately 6” wide and 62” long after blocking.

You will need 540 yards of your main color and 410 yards of your stripe color. The photo shows Zarina in black as the main color, and Luzern in Crayons as the stripe color.

Two size US4 (3.5mm) 16” circular needles are needed: one for knitting the cowl and the second to hold stitches while grafting the ends together.

Also needed are a stitch marker, yarn needle, and waste yarn for the provisional cast on.
