Back in the fifties the Dutch Cobra artist Karel Appel was inspired by the language of Children’s drawings. He created famous paintings with it. In his turn he inspired me to collect a few scribbles out of my - now teenaged - kid’s sketchbooks. Do you recall those rake hands and little houses? I turned them into knitting charts and repeated them throughout to make this seamless topdown sweater by and for kids.

Skill
Intermediate: this pattern involves knitting in the round, making nupps, stranded colourwork and optional short row techniques. Explanation of techniques is included.

Yarn
Sock/fingering, HHF, hand-dyed 90% merino wool, 10% nylon, 400m/100g (437 yds/100g), MC: 370-800m/404-874yds, shade egg yolk (yellow), and CC1: 10 m/10yds, shade sin (red). Sock/fingering, Undercover Otter, 80% merino, 20% nylon, 400m/100g (437 yds/100g), CC2: 360m-800m/393-874yds, shade leviathan (blue).

Needles
Circular needles 3,5 mm (4 US) cable sizes 60 cm (24 in), 80 cm (32 in) and DPNs. Or you can knit with 2 circulars avoiding all different cable lengths needed. For ribbing the edges you can opt for smaller size 3,25 mm (3 US) DPNs or longer cable when using magic loop technique.

Gauge
30 sts x 36 rounds = 10x10 cm (4x4 in) in colourwork after blocking.
