Sea Forth Hat - Bulky
Added for clarity on this pattern:: this BULKY version makes a very dense, heavy hat. Perfect for the bitter cold winters. The XL is meant to fit those with bigger noggins than usual (approx 23” plus around and extra long). A girlfriend of mine always complains that hats are always too small for her head. So I came up with a size that would fit without having a rolled brim. If a rolled brim is desired, add more rows to the brim, but beware of extra yarn yardage needed. The Worsted and Heavy Worsted versions also have an XL size, but they will fit a little more snug and are designed with a rolled brim to begin with. If someone you know has a larger than usual head, has a hard time finding hats to fit comfortably, and in need of a super warm hat; this hat is the one. But of course, the average size head may also enjoy a bulky hat, so a size Large (up to approx 22”) is included, too.
I saw a hat a friend of mine was wearing, a store bought hat at that (gasp I know!!) and knew I needed to knit it for myself. This is my creation based on just a glance at hers, with my own mix.
It is not an exact copy cat, but it is my version.
This hat is available in 3 different weights of yarn: Worsted, Heavy Worsted/Aran, and Bulky. Each pattern can be purchased separately or within an eBook here on Ravelry (which will save you some money to purchase the eBook). All three patterns produce the same hat, but as we know, some math is a must when trying to change up patterns to use a different weight of yarn. I did the hard part and figured the math for you. This created 3 different patterns depending on the yarn you wish to use.
A lot of testing has gone into all of the patterns and sizes, not just by me, but also by a good friend. (Thank you, Shaine!) However, if you find any errors or have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
The pattern is labeled as a beginner pattern as it uses Knits and Purls only. Each row makes a difference; the pattern is well written and detailed to give directions per row and repeats.
As I am using up my stash as much as possible, Full Circle is discontinued but can be substituted with any other Bulky Weight that meets the gauge.
