The Sea Maiden is a lace semicircular-shaped shawl, beginning from the top center back and worked down and outward.

The pattern includes charts and all the necessary pattern notes. The charts show only the right-side (odd-numbered) rows, they are read from RIGHT to LEFT. On the wrong-side rows, all stitches are worked as they face you between the edge stitches: knit stitches are knitted; purl stitches are purled.
Row-by-row written instructions are not included.

The pattern has been carefully test-knitted.

You will need:

  • any natural fiber yarn (wool, linen or cotton); 500 to 800 m (547 to 875 yds) per 100 g;
  • circular needles of the recommended size for your yarn;
  • crochet hook for binding off;
  • stitch markers, and darning needle.

The sample shawl has been knitted using Dundaga 7/1 Yarn (100% wool, 700 m 765 yds per 100 g).
The sample required about 990 m 1083 yds or 180 grams of yarn.
Finished measurements: 180 cm (71”) along the wingspan and 85 cm (33 ½“) depth, measured after wet blocking.

Finished measurements of your shawl and the yardage will depend on yarn choice, needle size and your individual manner of knitting.
