INTRODUCTION
The “Sea scallops” lace pattern works best with a thin, springy, fingering weight yarn. Sock is constructed toe up and has a short row heel with mini gusset and mini heel flap. The mini flap is reinforced with 1/2 Linen Stitch. Options include rounded or anatomical toe, generic or calculated foot length, and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off or picot bind-off.
SIZING: Sock will stretch ~1.5-2 inches (4-5 cm). Sizes Medium and Large are knit with same total stitch count on different size needles.
Small: 66 total sts, relaxed 6” (15.5 cm), to fit 8” (20.5 cm), length 8.75” (22 cm);
Medium: 72 total sts, relaxed 7” (18 cm), to fit 8.75” (22 cm), 9.25” (23.5 cm);
Large: 72 total sts, relaxed 8” (20.5 cm), to fit 9.75” (25 cm), 10” (25.5 cm).
GAUGE: stockinette in round
Small and Medium: US 0, 2 mm needle - 10 sts, 14 rows per inch (4 sts, 5.5 rows per cm);
Large: US 1, 2.25 mm needle - 9 sts, 12.5 rows per inch (3.5 sts, 5 rows per cm) in stockinette, in round.
MATERIALS:
Yarn: ~ 1 skein Light Fingering Weight ~460 yds(421 m)/100g. Sample made with: Toil and Trouble, fingering weight, 463 yds (423 m)/100 g; 75% SW merino, 25% nylon, color Snapdragon.
Needles: One 24-inch circular needle. Small and Medium: size US 0, 2.0 mm; Large: US1, 2.25 mm
Other: Darning Needle, 3 closed stitch markers.
DIFFICULTY: Intermediate - Pattern written from perspective of right-handed English style knitter using 1 circular needle. It assumes experience with knitting charts, toe-up sock construction, and basic lace knitting techniques. Pattern can be worked using 2 circular needles or double points. Adjust instructions for preferred knitting method.
