Sea Shift is a half pi shawl designed to allow the colours of a multi-coloured or gradient dyed yarn to take centre stage without competing with the stitch pattern. Eyelet rows form the increases, with additional mesh rows to add textural interest for an easy knit without being boring. The sample shawl was knitted in 2-ply handspun wool.

When worked to pattern tension of 25 sts and 36 rows to 4”/10cm of stocking stitch after blocking, the finished shawl has a 23½” (60cm) radius. (Tension is measured at a variety of spots and averaged, as the nature of pi-shaping means that the tension varies depending on how close to an increase row you are. Knitting a fabric with a pleasing drape i more important than an accurate tension, although it may affect your yarn yardage requirement if your average tension varies greatly from that stated.)

You will need: 850 yards (777m) lace weight yarn
3mm (US 2.5) needles
2 stitch markers
Darning needle (for weaving in ends)

You need to be able to: work yarn overs, work multiple yarn overs and drop them, work common decreases, work in stocking stitch and garter stitch.
