The design of this shawl has the decrease areas in the proper place to assist in keeping the shawl on your shoulders without the assistance of a shawl pin.

The design begins with the bottom border. The bottom border is totally knit and from there you build the shawl by picking up numerous stitches. The stitches are picked up purlwise, which does make the pick up a lot easier.

After picking up the stitches there is a 36 row lace section. Although the lace is worked on the RS and the WS rows it is a very easy pattern to follow. After the lace rows the shawl has decreases on the RS rows with a nice border. The lace repeats are consistent in each row and can be marked off with stitch markers.

This pattern is both charted and contains full written instructions.

The great part of this pattern is there are only 13 stitches to cast on, and ends with almost no bind off. Just a kitchener graft of 8 stitches. This method of binding off has been named Leedra’s Edged Bind Off by knitters of my pattern.

The inspiration for this shawl came from the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. I used Three Irish Girls Congdon Merino Silk yarn while designing this shawl, in the exclusive colorway of Gulf of Mexico, only available at A Good Yarn - Sarasota; in Sarasota, Florida. The bottom border is representative of the waves and the lace above the bottom border is representative of the palm trees and shells along the shore.

Measurements:
Center back 25”.
Front end to end, around neck 62”
Bottom edge, end to end 110”

Materials:
• Fingering Weight Yarn: 950 yards
• Stitch markers
• Darning needle
Needles Used:
• US 7 (4.5mm) circular 32” (80cm)
• US 7 (4.5mm) double point set (optional)
Gauge:
• 2 inches = Approximately 10 1/2 stitches and 14 rows
Producing the desired fabric is more important than obtaining
an exact gauge. Adjust yardage accordingly.

• Basic lace – stitches used are yo, ssk, sk2po, k2tog, p2tog, p2tog-tbl
