The Seafoam Shawl is a winged triangle shawl which starts from a garter tab cast on. There are alternating sections of stockinette stitch and lace which are divided by some garter rows. It is designed to be a simple yet striking piece that optimises the most of two skeins of yarn, while allowing good stitch definition.

The Seafoam Shawl represents where the waves crash at the shoreline on a grey, overcast day. When I was in America several years ago I arrived in San Francisco where the weather could change several times in the day and it made good sense to take an extra layer in your bag in case the weather turned. An odd familiarity came over me as it reminded me of my home city in New Zealand, where it is joked you can have all four seasons in a day. My boyfriend and I biked to the Golden Gate Bridge and the water was dark and steely, with the waves breaking in the choppy wind.

This shawl is designed to remind me of that holiday, and the sense of comfort in a surrogate home while gazing at the cold, water foaming below.
