Seagull Shawlette
Fly away with your seagull through your daydreams …
The idea was that I wanted to tame the wild fuzzy Angora yarn with long haired Mohair yarn. And it seems that this worked very well. No more whizzing of the fuzzy Angora hair on all clothing and around the face. The Mohair covers the Angora hair.
The ending edging shows two traditional Hamburg characteristics. The anchors and the colour red. Most Alster boots have red stripes and red tops. The flag of Hamburg has a white castle on red ground. The waste bins are red. The edging is shaped by stacked increases/decreases. The main body of the shawl is worked in stripes of two rows per colour. For the shaping I used short rows with w&t. The pattern was creating on its own. I only had to move the needles. It is worked bottom up.
I use w&t for short rows because this technique is very common and the wrap is its own stitch marker for the wrapped stitch. Helpful video.
There is another short rows technique of Irina Heemann I prefer. But it’s only in German.
Additional information and videos how to work the stacked stitches you can find at Xandy Peters.
Special thanks to Rabbit Hole Knits. Your lovely patterns are great to learn shaping by short rows.
Finished measurements after (before) blocking: 97 (95) wide and 51 (48) cm deep.
