Seahaven
Squishy garter and lofty brioche rib combine with a bold openwork pattern to create the comfy Seahaven Shawl. DK or light worsted, larger needles, and generous yardage make an oversized, drapey, crescent shawl simply made for keeping you cozy on the coolest days. Meditative garter and brioche rib are interrupted by a fun to knit open-
work stitch and there are absolutely no purl stitches in the entire pattern. The shawl is also fully reversible, it looks almost exactly the same on both sides.
Note on brioche technique:
The brioche technique used in this pattern is not the same as the complicated technique for 2-color brioche. It is simply (K1, K1B) repeated every row and very meditative once you get used to it.
Needles & Notions:
US size 8 (5 mm) 40 in/100 cm (or longer) circular needle (or size to obtain gauge), two stitch markers, locking stitch marker (optional), row counter (optional).
Note on circular needle cable length:
The shawl grows to be quite large; if you are using interchangeable circular needles, I recommend adding a cable extension as needed. Knit Picks sells cable extension kits for their Options needle sets and I highly recommend them! If you are using fixed circular needles, use the longest length you can. Even a 40” cable will get crowded with the large amount of stitches this shawl grows to.
Yarn & Yardage:
1120 yd/1024 m DK or light worsted weight merino or blend.
Suggested Yarn:
Miss Babs Yarn Yowza (100% Superwash Merino Wool, 560 yd/512 m/225 g); 2 skeins.
Gauge:
In garter stitch worked flat, 17 sts and 36 rows per 4 in/10 cm (unblocked)
14 sts and 32 rows per 4 in/10 cm (blocked).
Note that a looser gauge than noted (stitch or row) will result in the use of more yarn.
Final Measurements:
112 in/285 cm wingspan, 21 in/53 cm depth. Measurements taken after blocking.
