Sealonging
Sealonging, or Knit Your Own Beach is a wallhanging or mat which represents the ripples on the sand, the colours of the sea, and the waves crashing on the shore.
I made two samples, in colourways that represent beaches which are special to me - with so many colours available, you can probably find colourways that relate to your own special time, tides and places.
The sand is textured with garter and stocking stitch, and the spume and sea is textured with Auld Shell lace. I used six different colours for the stripes of sea, plus white. I calculate each set of two rows needs 2-3m of yarn, so you could even use oddments to knit your sea. You will need a little more for sea colour 6, and of white. I think approx half a ball of Spindrift was plenty for the sand.
I worked on a 3.5mm / 60cm circular needle for the sand and the sea, and a 2mm / 60cm circular needle for the ruffles of the spume.
As long as you can knit, purl, and work yarn overs, knit 2 together and ssk, you’ll be able to - knit your own beach! I hope you enjoy it!
The panel is approx. 25cm / 10” square.
