These socks were designed on a trip to the East Coast of the United States. I knit them while we visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, learning a bit more about our ancestors who immigrated from Europe. The dusty turquoise yarn reminds me of Lady Liberty’s aged copper patina.

The heel flap incorporates slipped stitches for strength and durability, and the ribbed gusset provides for a great hugging fit. The ‟stars and stripes” are worked in stranded knitting, with some slipped stitches to minimize a jog in the pattern between the end of one round and the beginning of the next, providing a seamless flow of the pattern.
