Seaside Stitches Socks
This is the third pattern in the Traveling Stitches Sock Club which can be found at
This pattern is an ode to those warmer months of beach trips and collecting seashells. The shortie design and lace make these socks more comfortable to wear on shore trips, the boardwalk, and evenings out.
Gauge: 8 stitches/per inch using 2.25 mm circular needles.
Sizing: 1 (2,3) - which fits a foot circumference of (unstretched) 7.50 inches (8.25 inches, 8.50 inches) around.
Yarn: The sample shown is made with Onion Knit Nettle Sock Yarn. This a tightly twisted 4ply made from superwash wool and nettle fibers. It beautifully shows the definition in the pattern and is a sustainable yarn dyed with plants. Onion Knit Nettle Sock Yarn. 70% Superwash Wool 30% Nettle Fiber. 50g (2 balls needed, as you’ll need just over a ball), color 1018.
Similar yarns can be found here: https://yarnsub.com/yarns/onion_knit/nettle_sock
A thinner fingering weight with a tight twist would be fine, as long as the yarn is similar.
Materials:
- US 1 (2.25) circular knitting needles (or size needed to get gauge), I recommend at least 32 inches (my preferred length). You can substitute DPNs and 9-inch circulars for circulars, and I’ll show you how.
- 100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn (as they’re shortie socks you likely won’t need the full 100 grams unless doing full-length legs).
- Stitch marker or locking stitch marker (optional)
- Ruler or measuring tape.
- Darning needle.
- Sock blockers to photograph your socks once you’re done! (optional).
Notes:
This pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be changed to DPNs. Use 2 needles for N1, and another 2 for N2. If you’re using 9-inch circulars, there will be notes throughout to guide you.
