Advent 2024 – May it be a season to celebrate with your loved ones. This fairly simple Advent shawl has a collection of fun cables worked on both sides, making it perfectly reversible.
As the shawl grows, the new cables are added, and on the other edge the rows slowly decrease, so the first few cables are “eaten up” by the edge cable.
It’s easy to lengthen or shorten if you prefer a scarf-style shawl. And gauge is totally not relevant; any yarn, from fingering to worsted weight will work - the shawl will only get larger with heavier weight yarn.

The pattern has 1 page with all the cable stitch patterns charted, But it is also split up into 24 sections of charts and written instructions, making it possible to work with an Advent Yarn package.

Change colours mid-row if at all possible, that makes it easiest to work the ends away unnoticably. This pattern was designed with an Advent –calendar of yarn in mind, but it will definitely look great in a single (hand-dyed) colour yarn.

Should you want to use a calendar of yarn, then there’s also a list added of when to change colours to use up an even amount of yarn per colour.
Or you could do what I did – wind off 21 meters of each yarn – and make 2 large balls of yarn. Then it’s always a surprise when you get to the next colour! The final colour is used to work the cable edge bind-off, which is a little bit time consuming but oh so worth it!
