There is a widely recognized phenomenon in the knitting world called “Second Sock Syndrome” and it is a real thing. You cast on a pair of socks and are super excited to knit a new pattern, but once you finish the first sock you just can’t bring yourself to knit the second one. The excitement has disappeared and you are left with one sock and half a skein of yarn.

Some knitters overcome this malady by knitting the socks two at a time, but I am willing to guess that the majority of knitters have at least one half ball of lovely sock yarn languishing and dreaming of becoming something …. anything … and this pattern is for those lonely remnants.

Rescue those half skeins from their vigils by knitting this fun and easy cowl designed to use up 50 g /200 yards of sock/fingering weight yarn. It will work equally well with solid, tonal, or variegated yarns and can be easily modified (knit more/fewer repeats) to compensate for the yardage you have available.

Stitches used: knit, purl, YO, slip
