This is a great beginner’s pattern. It knits up fast and easy. The scarf is fun for a ‘tween or teen-ager as you can give it to them plain and let them have the fun of painting it and making it truly personalized.

The scarf is also pretty plain, if no painting is desired.

Any bulky yarn can be used as long as it is predominantly wool or cotton. Both these fibers absorb paint much better than acrylic yarns when painted.

Always use a fabric paint, I used tie dye spray paints.
