The very first project I ever knit used dozens of yarns. I dove right into yarn collecting and mixing before I ever made anything plain or simple. As a result, my yarn stash is vast, with bits and bobs from previous projects in jars and baskets, just waiting to be played with. It’s the same way with plants and seeds for my garden. Jars of seeds, some alphabetized, some in little envelopes, collected and ready to make flowers.

I’ve got several patterns with flowers in my sketch book this spring, and this is the first one I am working up. The Seed Collector Hat can be worked up a number of ways depending on your preference; you can do simple colorwork, add a purl bump for texture, or wrap your yarn into a tiny bobble to make the flower pop. You could even sew little buttons or jewels on the flowers! There are two options for finishing your hat, first is the classic finish closure and the second is a top knot closure. I just couldn’t resist how cute the top knot looked on the child sized hat!

The pattern uses Super Bulky yarn, or yarns held together to make Super Bulky gauge. I have written the pattern for 3 sizes: child, adult m/l, and adult xl/xxl.

There are coordinating cowl and headbands patterns available, too. Yarn and pom poms for these projects are available on my website: www.northroadknits.com
