Good to know about the directions and charts…
The pattern mixes written and charted instructions – the top of the shawl is completely written out with a chart for the center of the shawl only. The center is a fern lace that repeats all the way through the textured portions until Row 80 and is written in bold text. The chart for the fern lace is included as a reference only & chart rows do not correspond to the rows being worked within the pattern. Beginning on row 65, the pattern will be charted primarily with additional details in the written sections on how to read and complete the charts. All charts & the chart key are located on the final pages of the pattern.
The center two stitches of the chart are highlighted in red throughout the written portion. It’s my experience that having a highlighted center reference is helpful in working a pattern such as this.
