This quick baby hat, worked bottom-up, provides a simple variation on 3x3 rib: a column of seed stitch is worked in the center of each knit rib!

The crown is made in a spiral that can be done with K2tog or SKP decreases - your preference.

Bonus! The 2-color variation replaces PURLS with a CONTRASTING YARN COLOR. The effect is more of a “nordic” look, and your creative ingenuity allows for more improvisation. If you’d rather see a line defining the start of the pattern section, work that transition round to larger needles in your light color instead of the dark used for the 1x1 ribbing. Also: any 2-color “fair isle” repeat worked over a number of stitches that goes evenly into 60 should do nicely for the color design rounds (15 rounds, or you could nudge it up to 16 if needed).

Enjoy. I’d love to hear your feedback.
