Seeds of Hope Beanie
Hope is the thing with feathers… - Emily Dickinson
The Seeds of Hope Beanie uses the Blackberry stitch to create a sporty beanie that can be worn on its own or as a complement to my Seeds of Hope Cowl. The Blackberry Stitch, a staple of Aran knitwear, is the only aran stitch that is worked on the wrong side of the piece. The stitch has been modified to be worked in the round; instead of turning the work, the beanie is knit entirely on the wrong side. You’ll see the ‘blackberries’ forming on the inside of the hat until you finish it and flip the right side to face out.
This pattern is written for four different sizes, with sizes listed in the instructions as: Size 1 (Size 2, Size 3, Size 4) and measurements provided in cm and then inches. Centimeters are rounded to the nearest 0.5cm and inches are rounded to the nearest ¼”. The chart below provides the suggested size and finished dimensions of the hat. The hat has been graded with a proportional negative ease of 15%. Selecting the size closest to your head circumference will result in a sporty, fitted look. For a more slouchy fit, you may wish to choose a slightly larger size or follow the length instructions for a larger size before beginning the crown shaping. Bear in mind that you’ll want some negative ease in order to ensure the hat stays on while wearing it, and that any adjustments will influence the amount of yarn needed.
Pay What You Can I’ve introduced a permanent discount scheme that will help keep my designs accessible to a range of budgets while also pricing them in a way that reflects the investment put into my designs and craft.
