The hat is worked flat and seamed - you can adjust the circumference to suit you taste, depth is determined by gauge.

Pattern is listed as DK with 4.5mm/US 7 needles, but sizing is given for 3 different gauges, so other yarn weights can be used (sock to aran weight)

Allow at least 100m/110yds of each of 2 contrasting yarns in similar weights (e.g. sport and DK, DK and worsted), or you can use a single striping or handspun yarn for a different effect.
