“Seemeile” is a cardigan with a round yoke where the neck is a bit lower and more rounded on the front side than on the back – which means that you can integrate any stripe-based pattern, without any short rows in the back neck disturbing the symmetry.

This is achieved by working twice as many increases per row on the front than on the back, but only half as often – which creates different curves for the necklines on the two sides. Moreover, the front neck starts with a few stitches more, to be compensated later.

This cardigan pattern is a complete pattern in itself, but it’s also a template for a round-yoke cardigan with stripes or colorwork, without the usual short rows in the back, but nonetheless with a deeper front neck. A repeat consists of 12 rows.
This provides you with a lot of options:
• Colorwork as described in the pattern
• Any other colorwork (with a height of up to 4 rows)
• Mosaic Knitting (with a repeat of up to 4 rows)
• Plain stripes with 2, 3 or 4 rows (or even 2 thin stripes per repeat)

The cardigan is worked top-down.
It starts with a provisional cast-on. Later, the hem and neck edge are attached together with the button bands, by working in 2-color (Garter) Mosaic all the way around the cardigan. Adding the neck edge at the end gives you the possibility to adjust the neck width exactly to your needs (and at a time where you have the whole cardigan to try on) by working a tighter bind-off, especially for the back neck, lifting it up more.

Needles and gauge: Main needle size is 3,5mm; 3,0mm needles used for edges (at least 2 needles of 3,0mm required).
Gauge: 24 sts x 33 rows in Stockinette with needle 3,5mm.

Yarn: Approx. 1300/ 1420/ 1550/ 1680/ 1800 m of a Sport weight yarn needed: 1170/ 1280/ 1400/ 1520/ 1630 m main color (MC) and 130/ 140/ 150/ 160/ 170 m contrast color (CC).

For my sample, I have used Zauberwiese Polwarth350 (100% wool, 350m/ 100g) in color “Schöne Reise” as main color and a similar wool yarn in off-white color for the waves.
