This is a rustic norwegian selbu inspired cowl.
It is knit in the round using two colors of fingering 100% wool. You may use any minimally processed wool ranging between light fingering and sock weight for this pattern. The size will vary depending on your gauge. The idea is to have a super warm cowl that holds its shape up on its own thanks to the properties of non superwash wool yarns.

I believe this is a great introduction to colorwork. It is a smaller project that doesnt require too much yarn but still complex enough chart to prepare you for larger colorwork projects.

The sample used rauma finull, one 50g ball of each color. Knit on 3mm needles that gave a circumference of 60 cm with a gauge of 26 sts.

You may choose a smaller needle size to get a tighter gauge and smaller circumference if you wish. You may also felt the cowl to make it smaller and wind proof.

Testers used gauge varying from 24 to 31 sts per 10 cm and had cowls measuring from 50-64 cm in circumference.
