Self patterned shawlette
I am a sucker for multi-coloured yarn and I have lots of it in my stash. This long, shallow crescent shawlette/scarf is a lovely trans-seasonal piece which alternates stocking stitch with an easy slip stitch pattern to break up pooling and show off your yarn at its colourful best. It can be worn long in mild weather, or wrapped twice, to keep warm. Using a yarn with several colours gives plenty of options for colour co-ordinating your outfit too!
SUPPLIES
360 -370 yards (330 - 340m) of sport or fingering weight yarn that knits to gauge. This includes a safety margin on my usage.
You will need:
A long US 6 (4.00mm needle) circular needle (or size to meet gauge) plus a needle that is one size larger, for the bind off. You will be working back and forth in rows.
A locking stitch marker to mark the right side of your work.
A 3.00mm crochet hook for the optional crochet edge (there is a photo tutorial for this)
A sewing up needle.
GAUGE: 20 stitches in blocked stocking stitch in 4” (10 cm) using US 6 (4.00mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge. While gauge is not critical for this project, differences in gauge will affect yarn usage and overall size of your scarf. A tighter gauge will require more yarn.
Finished dimensions after blocking: approximately 71” (180 cm) long from tip to tip, and 8” (19.5 cm) deep at widest point.
