The legend of the selkie is one of my absolute favorites--it’s the story of a people who can shed their seal skins to become human. If a person were to find a selkie’s seal skin while they were in human form, the selkie would be bound to them until they could retrieve their skin and disappear back underneath the waves.

For this project, I used delicate twisting cables to mimic the movement of the water along the shoreline, the ripple of seaweed just below the surface, and the gentle patterning of the pelt of the seal as it transitions to human form.
