Semplice
Semplice is Italian for simple and this triangular shawl is a combination of stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch, making it a relaxed and easy project.
Started with a garter rib tab, the shawl is worked flat, with increases in the middle and at both ends of right side rows, a total of 4 stitches increased every two rows. It starts out with columns of 4 stitches and as the shawl grows, multiple of 4 stitches of alternating stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch side by side. At certain points, each column changes creating interesting geometric effects, triangles appear next to the spine and edges, rectangles and squares form in the middle of the fabric. The edge border is done in garter stitch, bringing balance and putting all the beautiful geometry in perspective.
The shawl uses 200g of 4 ply/fingering weight yarn, of around 320m per 100g. The Adagio Mills yarn used has 320m per 100g, so if using a more conventional 4ply (fingering weight) yarn of 400m per 100g, one should be able to extend the last couple of sections and even add some tassels.
The red version was knitted in a 50% alpaca, 25% linen and 25% silk yarn.
The purple version was knitted in a 70% merino and 30% silk yarn.
