Stranded colourwork and textured stitches form a soft rainbow stripe on these mid-forearm length mitts, the first pattern in the Cottars Almanac series. Cosy and hardwearing, they stretch out those last few weeks of being able to be outdoors in a t-shirt, and keep you prepared for when the sun gets lower and the mornings start to have a little bite. They are knit from the cuff up. Stitches are increased and worked in two-colour rib to form a thumb gusset. Thumb stitches are then put on hold, to be picked up and knitted after the top of the mitt is completed.
Skills Required
Tubular 1x1 rib cast on (optional-your preferred rib cast on can be used); knitting and purling in the round (including use of DPNs or magic loop for working small circumference); stranded colourwork using a chart; increasing; setting aside and picking up stitches; stretchy cast off (optional–your preferred cast off can be used, providing it is done loosely).
