I like to knit them in Sport Weight Yarn….

Yarn: Sport Weight (30 - 40 yards)
Needles: 5 DPN US 1 (2.25mm),
Scraps of yarn for face and cowl
Fingering weight scraps for embroidery
Stuffing
Tapestry or embroidery Needle
Hemostats (optional, used for stuffing)

But they really can be knit up in any weight of yarn….
I try all sorts of needle and yarn combinations…..

Worsted weight with US 4 (3.5 mm)
Worsted weight with US 3 (3 ro 3.25 mm)
DK weight with US 2.5 (3 mm)
Sport weight with US 0 (2.0 mm)
Fingering weight with US 1 (2.25 mm)
Fingering weight with US 00 (1.75 mm)
Fingering weight with US 000 (1.5 mm)
