This design is the eighth of a series—twelve cowls in sequence knitting for 2024. This month, we’re working a {k5, (p1, k1) twice, p1} sequence in a spiral, worked in two directions. Begin with a multiple of 10 stitches minus 1, then increase to a multiple of 10 stitches plus 1, then decrease back to a multiple of 10 stitches minus 1 to create this wonderful zig-zag. Next month, we’ll work a flat rectangle and seam it in an interesting way to shape the cowl, and in October, we’ll change to our last sequence of the year. Traditional instructions and a chart are included in the pattern, as well as the sequence knitting instructions.

This is an easy project. The techniques you will need to know, or learn, in order to complete this cowl are:

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit and purl;
  • M1 increase;
  • k2tog decrease.

Errata: I mislabeled the charts. The first, larger chart, is for Sections One and Three. The second, smaller chart, is for Section Two. I have updated the file on Ravelry.
