Sequoia Trees Hat
This is a good first stranded project. Knitter must be able to knit and purl, work ribbing, k2tog, SSK, and handle two strands of yarn at a time.
Across from my home in Oregon, there are two huge Sequoia trees that greet me in all their majesty as I gaze from my front window. I’ve long envisioned memorializing them in fair isle. As I looked at photographs, it dawned on me that they look so very tall because so much sky can be seen behind and through them. There are over 200 of these amazing trees in our small community and each one is impressive. I’m grateful they are protected.
Materials:
Sizes 4 and 5 US needles for knitting in the round – either 16” circular along with double points or one 36-40” long circular with very flexible cable for Magic Loop.
Four colors of yarn in either DK or worsted can be used to create this lovely hat. Worsted just works up thicker and the resulting hat isn’t all that much bigger. Be sure to check your gauge.
Colors:
- sky blue 46 yds
- dark brown 8 yards
- dark green 44 yards
- dry grass 55 yards
Gauge: 19 sts = 4 inches on size 5 needles
The pattern is four pages and includes a color chart and a coded chart for those without color printing available.
If you knit to gauge, the hat will comfortably fit a head 21-22” in diameter.
Kits with just the right amount of yarn in each color along with the printed pattern can be purchased via the Knotty Lamb yarn shop in Forest Grove, Oregon for under $30 plus postage. See the website for details.
