This stripe pattern in this rectangular shawl is inspired by the serape shawls of Mexico. The special stitch creates an interesting texture and a gentle drape.

Materials
Valley Yarns Charlemont (60% Merino/20% polyamide, 20% silk, 3.5 oz/100 g, 439 yd/401.5 m) – 3 skeins Purple Passion (CA), 1 skein Natural (CB), and 1 skein Burgundy (CC), or approximately 1,790 yd (1,637 m) in any sock weight yarn.
US F-5/3.75 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
Yarn needle.
Gauge
26 sts x 11 rows in pattern = 4” (10 cm) when pinned flat but not blocked. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.
