According to Dionysius the Areopagite and to Christian angelology as a whole, the seraphim are placed in the highest choir of the angelic hierarchy and associated with the divine attribute of charity. Their Hebrew Name characterises them as the „burning ones“; Isaiah describes them in his vision as six-winged beings flying around the throne of God with one pair of wings while covering either their own faces and feet or the face and feet of God himself with the other two pairs – the Hebrew text is ambivalent in this respect.

Thus, in this pattern, the seraph’s hair and wings are designed to look fiery. The wings can be left spread out as they are or sewn together in a crossed position – or, if you’re undecided, you can add a piece of wire to bend them in whatever way you like best.

You can choose any kind of yarn for this pattern; I used Schachenmayr Catania and Lang Quattro yarns (50g=125m / 1,75 oz=137yds) and a 2.5 hook to get a figure about 10 cm high. For the golden details, I used a slightly thinner yarn and a 2.0 hook.
