Techniques Used: working in the 3rd loop of a half-double crochet, cluster stitches, post stitches, center single crochet, creating I cord
Materials needed:
5 (H) mm hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge (cowl body)
4.5mm hook (ribbed band)
425 (460, 495, 530, 565) yards #4 Red Heart Soft in “Seafoam” or the color of your choice
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers
(Optional) 1/8 yard faux fur for pom-poms at end of ties
Stitches Used:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
FPdc = Front Post double crochet
Additional Terms:
Working in the 3rd loop of hdc: Look at the top of the stitch, and locate the sideways “V”, bend the stitch to look at the back, and you should see another “V”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”, this is called the 3rd loop.
2dc cluster: YO, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops (1st stitch of cluster made), YO, insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, YO draw through 2 loops (2nd st of cluster made), YO, draw through all loops on hook.
3dc cluster = YO, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops (1st stitch of cluster made), YO, insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, YO draw through 2 loops (2nd st of cluster made), YO, insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, YO draw through 2 loops (3rd st of cluster made), YO, draw through all loops on hook.

sp/sps = space/spaces
sk = skip

Gauge:
Approximately 14 hdc in 4”
Measurements:
These measurements are taken with the cowl laying flat. The circumference will be double what the flat measurement is. For example, a 13” wide cowl will be 26” in circumference.
X-Small/Small: 12” wide by 12 1/2” tall
Small/Medium: 13” wide by 12 1/2” tall
Medium/Large: 14” wide by 12 1/2” tall
Large-X Large: 15” wide by 12 1/2” tall
2x-3x-Large: 16” wide by 12 1/2” tall.
Additional Notes:
-Ch-1 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch.
-The body of this pattern is worked in multiples of 2.
