These facecloths and fingertip sized hand towels are great to set out for guests. Make them of 100% cotton and they are both wonderfully absorbent and very easy care. This stitch pattern lends itself to many striping strategies, lays perfectly flat and is completely reversible.
Easy is the operative word, here. Skills needed: Knit-on cast on, knit, purl, traditional bind off. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
This is my meditation knitting. They make great wedding shower and housewarming gifts. I made these sets for donation to the Global Knit collection of personal hygiene kits following the Haiti earthquake of 2010, and then to send to victims of the strong earthquake/tsunami/radiaton disaster in Japan in 2011. A personal gesture of this sort speaks volumes to let the recipient know that at least one someone in the world has not completely forgotten about their struggles when they must rebuild or relocate after surviving a massive disaster. I plan also to use them as non-disaster-related housewarming gifts on occasion in the future.
I would like to thank Cindy Harrison for going over the pattern for me. Even a very simple pattern like this one benefits from the scrutiny of a knowledgeable tester.
