Inspiration

“You can’t take the sky from me“ is from the opening lines to the song from the popular, but short lived Sci-fi series Firefly. Lyrics by Joss Whedon and sung by Sonny Rhodes.

The sky is not only an amazing colour of calm but it represents freedom and dreams.

Serenity is a garter stitch shawl knitted sideways with a cable along the top edge and a lace panel insert.

This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.

Finished Measurements:

Difficulty level
Intermediate, the shawl is actually very easy but there are some twisted stitches in the lace section. I think an adventurous advanced beginner willing to learn a few new techniques will manage just fine as the rest of the shawl is not hard.

Skills needed
Provisional cast on, lace knitting, basic cable, simple decreases, twisted stitches.

Needles:
Needles: 3.75mm needles (US 5) the width of the scarf/shawl is such that you can knit it on straight needles but it might be easier to use circulars as they are so much more portable and project bag friendly.

Yarn:
Fingering weight/sock weight Merino Nurturing Fibres Supertwist Sock Yarn Narrow shawl 125g (413m / 450yds) Deeper shawl 200g (660m / 720 yds)

Notions:
Safety pin, or small stitch holder.
Waste yarn for provisional cast on.
A smooth cotton works well but any yarn of a similar weight will be fine.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge
27 stitches and 34 rows over 10cm / 4” in garter stitch blocked.
