This shawl is inspired by the place I live — Richmond, Virginia —known as ‘the city of seven hills.’ SEVEN HILLS is constructed as an asymmetrical triangle with generous wingspan. Beginning at one tip with garter stitch, the shawl transitions into a simple eyelet pattern, then a visually-striking mosaic motif. Triangular shaping is achieved by increasing stitches along the longest edge of the triangle, while decreasing along one of the shorter edges. This pattern was written in one size for sport weight yarn, but could be adapted to other dimensions by using lighter or heavier yarns.

YARN
The sample pictured was knitted using O-WASH SPORT by O-Wool in four colors (three 100g skeins and one 20g mini skein).

O-WASH is a 100% machine-washable certified organic yarn that uses a GOTS certified organic compound to create washability. O-SPORT comes in a wide variety of colors, so color combination possibilities are endless! This sample uses these shades:

Color 1 (C1) - Gorge (100g/304 yards)
Color 2 (C2) - Paw Paw (20g/61 yards)
Color 3 (C3) - Barn Owl (100g/304 yards)
Color 4 (C4) - Sea Pine (100g/304 yards)

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
• size US 4 / 3.5mm circular needle
• tapestry needle

GAUGE and SIZE
18 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch, after blocking.

The finished shawl has a wingspan of 84 inches (along the top edge) and depth of 20 inches.

Please note that as with many shawl patterns, gauge is not critical. You may wish to experiment with lighter or heavier weight yarns and/or different needle sizes (keeping in mind that this will yield a shawl with different finished measure-ments.) Knitting a swatch (and blocking your swatch) will help you find the proper tension for your yarn.
